Training:

New franchisees attend our three week classroom and field training program at our Richmond, Virginia, Training Center. Training is provided in all aspects of the business including (1) marketing and advertising; (2) sales methodology; (3) project design; (4) technology – SoftPlan (CAD-based design software), Business Manager (proprietary pricing software), and QuickBooks; (5) business and office administration systems; (6) construction basics; and (7) production management. In addition, up to a week of field training is provided in the first year at franchisee’s location. Lastly, regular weekly call with leadership to provide franchisees with ongoing training for themselves and/or new employees.


Ideal Candidate

A typical day for an Archadeck franchisee can depend on the staffing levels the office employs.  This is dependent on the candidate’s capital he/she wishes to invest at either start-up or during the course of experience and sales volume. 

Listed below are three scenarios:

  1. The first describes the typical franchisee whom initiates his business essentially as a sole operator.
  2. The second clarifies on an office exceeding approximately $500,000 in annual revenue. 
  3. The third example defines sales volume exceeding $800,000.

Sales Volume up to $500,000

In most regions of the country, sales and construction of outdoor living spaces are predominantly demanding between the months of February – September with extremely high volume from March-June.  Although, they vary dependent upon region, a typical operator will work approximately 60-70 hours/week building and experiencing/learning the intricacies of the business operations.  The day consists of working in the following arenas:

1.     The production division ensures projects are being constructed properly according to local jurisdictions and the Archadeck Unified Structural System, discovering and managing opportunities, attaining permits and speaking with respective clients.

2.     Office/Administrative responsibilities consist of answering phones, emails for incoming leads, setting appointments, managing projects and prospective leads. This also includes accounting functions, marketing initiatives, and other administrative tasks.

3.     Sales tasks include visiting prospective clients’ homes (performing sales calls), designing projects, pricing projects and proposing clients on future projects.

Sales Volume above $500,000 - $800,000

As the business begins to gain strength in the market and lead flow increases, it is not uncommon to hire staff to assist in the business.  A typical office will first consider hiring an administrative assistant also known as an office manager.  This person will typically work about 40 hours per week and will perform all of the administrative duties described above with the recommended exception of accounting (dependent on skill set and trust).  The typical franchisee will work about the same number of hours per day due to volume increase. 

Sales Volume in excess of $800,000

At this point, the business is entering maturity and gaining brand awareness.  System wide average sales are approximately $27,000 which equates to 40 projects/year.  At this volume an office hires either an additional design consultant (sales) or production manager.  This decision is based on the owner’s strengths and weaknesses. Work load on owner(s) will not change depending on training, development and implementation of processes within the organization.  Once an owner has developed internal systems (with the assistance and guidance from the Archadeck National support team), he or she can begin to see the fruits of their labor.  This usually occurs once sales exceed $1,200,000 – 1,500,000.  At those levels, additional staffing in production, administration and sales are necessary but begin to pay for themselves easily and profits are enhanced.
