Mold Medics Franchisee Expands Across Central Ohio Markets
Entrepreneur Michael Creatore initially planned to develop three Mold Medics territories in central Ohio. Shortly after launching his marketing efforts, however, he realized that owning the entire Columbus market would create a stronger and more efficient business.
Creatore has now acquired all six available Mold Medics territories across central Ohio, giving him full coverage of the Columbus metropolitan area.
The investment marks a new chapter for an entrepreneur with decades of experience in business ownership, financial planning and franchise consulting.
From Business Founder to Franchise Owner
Creatore is the founder and former CEO of Specialized Senior Care, a home health company that was acquired by a private equity firm earlier this year.
Nearly a decade ago, he considered turning the senior care business into a franchise system. He ultimately decided against that path. After the company’s acquisition, he began looking for a new opportunity and returned to franchising from a different direction.
This time, Creatore chose to become a franchisee.
His understanding of the industry goes well beyond his latest investment. After beginning his career in sales, he became a financial planner and later sold his financial planning firm. He also spent several years advising executives and business owners who wanted to leave corporate careers and start businesses through franchising.
During that time, he evaluated hundreds of franchise opportunities and gained a close understanding of what separates a promising system from a weak one.
Why Mold Medics Stood Out
Creatore wanted a specialized service business with a clear operating model. Mold Medics attracted his attention because the company focuses specifically on mold inspection, testing, removal and related indoor air quality services.
Many restoration companies handle a wide variety of projects, including water damage, electrical work, construction and drywall repair. Mold Medics offers a narrower service model built around trained and certified technicians.
That specialization appealed to Creatore. He saw an opportunity to build a team that could become highly skilled in one important area rather than trying to provide every type of property restoration service.
Founded in 2019 and franchising since 2020, Mold Medics currently operates across 30 territories through seven franchise owners. Although it is still an emerging franchise, Creatore believes its focused service model gives it room to grow.
A Marketing Decision Leads to a Larger Investment
Creatore signed his first Mold Medics agreement in March, acquiring three central Ohio territories. His deal also gave him the first opportunity to purchase the remaining three territories in the Columbus region.
Once digital advertising began, he noticed a practical challenge. Marketing campaigns aimed at Columbus-area customers would naturally reach people living outside his original boundaries.
Instead of paying for advertisements that could generate business in territories he did not control, Creatore decided to purchase the rest of the market. The second agreement gave him ownership of all six available territories in central Ohio.
The larger footprint allows him to advertise across the Columbus area without worrying about territorial overlap. It also creates more room to build brand recognition and grow the operation under one ownership group.
Testing and Education Build Customer Trust
The company’s approach to mold services was another important factor in Creatore’s decision.
He found that some providers focus primarily on treating visible mold without first identifying the type of mold present or explaining the situation to the property owner. Mold Medics takes a more detailed approach that can include testing, inspection and customer education before remediation begins.
Creatore believes customers should understand what has been found in their homes and whether it may present a health or property concern. That educational process can help people make more informed decisions while building trust in the service provider.
Maintaining a strong reputation has been a priority throughout Creatore’s career. His previous businesses maintained an A-plus Better Business Bureau rating, and he wanted his next company to reflect similar standards for professionalism and customer care.
Mold Medics Plans Further Franchise Growth
The six-territory agreement strengthens Mold Medics’ presence in Ohio, where the company already has a territory in Toledo.
Brand leader Bryan McMurray expects another 25 to 30 territories to enter the company’s development pipeline by the end of the year. As the franchise grows, the leadership team hopes to attract experienced and collaborative owners who can contribute ideas as well as capital.
McMurray sees Creatore’s background as an important advantage. His experience evaluating franchise systems allows him to provide practical feedback about operations, marketing and franchisee support.
Mold Medics is currently operating or developing territories in Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, Michigan and Florida. South Florida remains an important expansion target because warm, humid weather and hurricanes can contribute to moisture problems. Northern markets also offer demand, particularly in communities with aging homes and buildings.
Threshold Brands Provides Added Support
Mold Medics is part of Threshold Brands, a home services platform that also includes USA Insulation, Pestmaster and Sir Grout.
For Creatore, the parent company was an important part of the investment. He believes Threshold Brands can provide the financial resources, infrastructure and operating experience needed to help an emerging franchise develop responsibly.
The relationship also gives Mold Medics access to broader support systems that may be difficult for a young, independent franchise to build on its own.
McMurray said the company must continue expanding its coaching, marketing and franchise support teams as more owners join the system. Sustainable franchise growth, he believes, depends on ensuring that franchisees receive the guidance and resources they need.
The estimated initial investment to open a Mold Medics franchise ranges from $141,250 – $250,000 .
Creatore’s six-territory commitment reflects his confidence in both the specialized service and the organization supporting it. With full control of the Columbus market, he can now focus on building a recognizable mold remediation business throughout central Ohio.
