Juice It Up Menu Innovation Drives Franchise Growth in 2026

Juice It Up is finding new ways to keep its menu relevant while giving franchise owners products that can drive sales and customer interest.

CEO Susan Taylor says the strategy comes down to two important factors: taste and purpose. New products need to deliver on flavor first, while functional benefits such as added protein can give customers another reason to choose them.

That approach has become increasingly important as Juice It Up competes in the growing smoothie, juice, acai bowl and health-focused beverage market.

Since becoming CEO six years ago, Taylor has helped guide several changes across the 31-year-old brand. The company has placed greater emphasis on digital ordering, customer loyalty, franchise growth and a more carefully planned approach to menu development.

Protein Smoothies Deliver Strong Sales

Protein has become one of the biggest areas of opportunity for Juice It Up in 2026.

Early in the year, the company expanded its popular Zone smoothie lineup with new fruit options. The Zone has been part of the brand's menu for years and combines ingredients such as peanut butter and protein powder.

The expanded lineup quickly gained customer attention. During the first quarter of 2026, the limited-time offering accounted for more than 10% of systemwide sales.

Juice It Up followed that success with another protein-focused launch featuring Chobani Greek Yogurt. Although the smoothies only recently reached customers, discussions between Juice It Up and Chobani had been underway for approximately two years.

The results have been significant. Combined, the protein initiatives generated an additional $1.3 million in the category during the first half of 2026. That represented a 31% increase compared with the previous year.

Testing New Products Before Franchise Rollout

For Juice It Up, a successful menu launch begins long before customers see a new smoothie on the menu.

The company tests potential products and training procedures across 11 locations, including 10 franchise-operated stores.

The goal is to determine whether a new item can work in a real restaurant environment before asking the larger franchise network to invest in ingredients, equipment or employee training.

That franchise-first approach is particularly important because even a popular product has to make financial and operational sense for store owners.

Juice It Up also conducts quarterly franchisee roundtables. These conversations allow operators to share customer feedback and identify products or ingredients guests are requesting.

The information helps the company decide what should stay, what should change and where new opportunities may exist.

Looking Beyond Short-Term Food Trends

Personalization and protein are receiving significant attention throughout the restaurant and beverage industries, but Juice It Up does not want its innovation strategy to depend on copying every new trend.

Instead, the company looks for broader changes in customer behavior that may have lasting potential.

Its team studies international restaurant concepts, watches emerging food and beverage conversations across TikTok and other social platforms and considers insights gathered at industry events.

Once a year, the internal team also conducts a deeper review of the entire menu. Existing products are evaluated alongside potential additions to determine what remains relevant and where the brand should go next.

The objective is to recognize meaningful changes early enough to act on them without introducing products simply because they are temporarily popular.

Building Juice It Up for the Next Generation

After more than three decades in business, Juice It Up is thinking beyond what customers want today.

Taylor believes established restaurant brands need to anticipate how consumer preferences could change over the next five or 10 years. Waiting until traffic and sales begin declining can leave a company trying to catch up rather than leading its category.

For Juice It Up franchise owners, that long-term thinking also provides a more disciplined approach to menu development.

With protein products already producing measurable growth in 2026, Juice It Up is showing how thoughtful testing, franchisee feedback and changing customer preferences can work together to create meaningful menu innovation.
